Freedom vs. Resolutions

I’ve never really been in to New Year’s Resolutions.  Despite the fact that media and marketing wants us to believe a new year is a time to punish our bodies, or make us feel guilty about what we have or haven’t done, it seems most people have wisened up to the idea that resolutions don’t seem to work.  And they usually don’t feel good.

What if as the new year unfolds we instead acknowledge all that we already are?  What if you gave yourself permission to forgive yourself for anything you’ve done (or not done) in the past and accepted that you are right where you’re supposed to be?

Relax and feel the freedom in that.  Letting go of expectations is liberating and allows true creativity to flow from Soul and Spirit.

What if instead of fighting the body, we realize we aren’t the body?

You don’t need fixing, or tweaking, or bettering.  Once this is accepted, the body will do what it’s supposed to do.  Support you.  Be a vehicle for you.  And over time it will naturally wear out as you lose your need for it…only for you to eventually drop it…and rise to the realm of Spirit.

If you think of your body in this loving way, how would it react?  Love your flaws, love your dis-ease, love your aches and pains.  Don’t fight them – include them – and it eases their hold on you.  Would that energy shift cause something to heal?

If the mirror is telling you to lose 20 pounds, what if you told it “I am healthy and worthy of feeling great”.  And what if it wasn’t a hopeful affirmation, but you truly felt it.  Would the mind listen, and your actions naturally follow?  Would taking attention away from the excess weight instead allow it to just fall away?  Realizing and accepting you are already perfect will shape and change what you physically feel and see.  This is not “woo woo” self-talk, but energetically how your Mind can affect your reality.

No resolutions.  Self Love instead.

Finally, it’s sometimes difficult to talk “everything is Love” when the world can seem to be doing the opposite.  So when I see our politicians making choices I wouldn’t, I’m sending them Love as best I can.  Others are being guided to purposeful and much needed action, and for that I am grateful.  But for me, I focus on what I can do in my own little world so I’m not feeling helpless: See the Light in others.  Even those certain world leaders (ahem, who remain un-named on my site) who are sometimes harder to love, are really only fighting the shadows inside themselves.  They too are actually perfect beings, but have forgotten.  They have lost themselves in a role they are playing.  Some moments I catch myself feeling such sadness for them, and I see them as a lost and lonely child – lashing out in fear.  But there is a better way. By each of us forgiving ourselves for any unwanted thoughts, actions, body haves or have nots, we are teaching others to do the same.  Each ripple then affects the next, and the next….

Only through my own inner work can I affect any change in the outside world.

Yesterday I was clever,
so I wanted to change the world.
Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.

Here’s to a great 2019!
And in the words of Mark Darcy to Bridget Jones, “I like you.  Just as you are.”

In gratitude,

I’ve started working on positive self-talk and your post helps put it in to perspective even more.
    Thank you!
